The Healing Benefits of Practicing Reiki

You may have heard of Reiki, a form of healing that originated in early 20th century Japan. But do you know what it can do for you and your energy? There are many benefits to practicing Reiki, and this healing art has been used across the globe in several different contexts.

Reiki focuses on the concept of ki (known in Chinese culture as qi), which is the vital life force energy that is present in all living things. Reiki aims to regulate and balance that energy, encouraging a healthy flow of ki throughout the body. It is a form of alternative healing that aims to reduce stress and manage illness.

There are countless possible benefits of practicing Reiki, including:

  • Balance & harmony in the body

  • Improving quality of sleep

  • Releases tension in the body

  • Strengthens immune system and encourages bone/tissue healing

  • Relieves stress

  • Introduces a relaxing meditative state

  • Allows your mind to focus

  and many more positive effects.

It should be noted that Reiki can not replace traditional medicinal treatments. It is more of a spiritual practice, like meditation, that can encourage self-healing and regulate the body. If anything, Reiki can be a great addition to your other healing practices, and can complement a lot of traditional medicine. Adding Reiki to your wellness routine can strengthen the healing that you’re already working on.

Reiki can be taught in a very gentle, soothing manner, and your first experience with it will likely be easy-going. During a session, a practitioner will place their hands slightly on or just above the body and move the energy flow from one location to another. They will begin to determine what energy you need and where any blockages may be. There will not be any pressure or manipulating tissue like you may be used to in traditional massages or physical therapy.

During the session, you might feel the energy moving through you in the form of a tingling or warm sensation. You may not feel anything at all in the moment, and that’s normal as well.

Reiki can be beneficial to those with chronic pain or long-term illnesses. Again, the practice of Reiki should not replace any traditional doctors’ appointments or therapy, but instead can be a great additional tool to have for your body.

Those suffering from:

  • Digestive issues

  • Chronic pain

  • Many forms of cancer

  • Mental illness– such as depression, anxiety, and etc.

  • Parkinson’s Disease

And more could benefit greatly from practicing Reiki.

There are three levels of Reiki: 1) The first level, where beginners may begin to learn to practice on themselves and others through a light, gentle touch. 2) Second-level involves practicing distance healing. 3) Third-level practitioners are also known as master-level, and can start to introduce others to Reiki and teach the art itself.

If you are interested in benefiting from, practicing, or even teaching reiki, there are countless reasons to give it a try. With the ability to improve your mood, relax and open your mind, and relieve any stress and tension in the body, Reiki can be a game changer. Combining it with other popular and relaxing practices like yoga and meditation can create a wellness routine that is fulfilling and healing. Reiki can not replace traditional medicine and therapeutic practices, but can instead be a wonderful complement to these things. Whether you have chronic pain and have tried everything, or you simply want a better way to focus and improve your sleep, Reiki may be for you.
